Not a world record...at least in the book of IGFA. Main reason is because you can no longer detain such fish for a weigh in, as all oversize fish must be release. In the Fraser River and Columbia River, no sturgeon may be kept or detain whatsoever. All strictly catch and release. The lower West Coast have a specific bag and size limit per day and per year. So the world record will always stick at a 9 footer that weighs 400 something pounds out from San Pablo Bay, California. This is for White Sturgeon.
That sturgeon there may be a big monster, but there are gazillions bigger ones that have been caught out of that river. That guide, is a business man so it's time for him to advertise with that fish to attract customers.
P.S. - a 20 feet White Sturgeon has been caught on rod and reel, but it never made it into IGFA due to the new regulation.
