So what are your new year tank plans? New tank? New fish? Re-design? Downsize?

I plan to re-design my 30g tank into something better. I have hated this tank from day one, everyday I look at it I want to tear it down. It’s not very pleasing to the eye at all...and I might buy a glass top and new light for it as I do not like the manufacturers lid and light system.

This tank was my quarantine tank for a while and since my rope fish has moved out I re-stocked the tank with German blue rams and sterbai cories.

All fish purchased from the same place. The sterbai seem to have some sort of white body fungal infection, one passed already. The German blue male has a “hole/bump” on the side of his head. Due to the lack of available medications in Canada now I’m mostly relying on my current supply of meds, Indiana almond leaves, and regular water changes to get these guys through. Hopefully by the new year they will be deemed healthy and healed and I will be able to start the re-design.

please share your own plans for your tanks in the new year!

Get a 5’ x 3.5’ x 2’, I have a few things to do before I can accommodate such a tank though.

If my wallet isn’t dead by then, it likely will be though, then I’ll wait until the dollar per gallon sale and get a 75. Maybe more than 1.

I've got huge plans for 2020 but sadly that's probably how they'll remain, just plans! Mrs Esox, I doubt very much, will allow them to come to fruition, especially as I hoodwinked her slightly whilst planning my 360g tank. ?

Ive got a couple of rimless builds going. One is going to be my first foray in reefkeeping. That one that should be done by new years is 30"Lx24"Wx21"H. The other im working on is 36"Lx36"Wx30"H. it will have some bracing though.

Ive also got a 5'x2' tank project in limbo right now.

The sump on my 135 burst a seam a couple weeks back and put a couple gallons on my floor. I have it temporarily rigged up with sponge filters on a lowboy stand i threw together. Not sure how im gonna proceed with that tank, maybe break it down and work on it once i have the other stuff done.

As far as fish go, im gonna get my growing flowerhorn into his own tank, maybe that 135. Im moving my old 150 into the garage which will house the midevil or other larger fish i have. The 36x36 tank will go into its place in the spare room and house loaches and friends.

At least thats the tentative plan for this year. My aquarium plans are always quite fluid...

Very nice, what do you plan to stock them with?

Wow you have a 360 running? I didn’t realize you had that large of a tank!
Not going to lie I think I’d bee a little miffed if I got hoodwinked too lol

We're building a house so a couple tanks will be in the walls and the wife wants rays and discus (not together) but multiple big tanks are in the future bit first I need to get this 125 set up and I'm gonna rescape one of the 55g comm grow outs

Them? The 75 gallons? I can't even list them all as there are so many things I want to do but I can't choose just yet.
1.A community of african knives would be lovely, already have 2 in separate tanks so that's likely going to happen.
2.A gulper catfish community, not sure how many.
3.Cory catfish community?
4.Congo puffers would be nice, I've been throwing around the idea of a community of congo puffers, dwarf puffers, and Carinotetraodon irrubesco would be absolutely fantastic. I'm not sure just how well the combination would work out and that's a lot of money to risk so if I do decide to go with puffers (a secret want of mine) then I'll likely stick to 1 species.
5.A high tech planted tank fully decked out with all the bells and whistles including pressurized co2.
6.A nano fish community. (this might go into the high tech planted tank)
7.A dedicated breeding tank which I customize for the species I intend to breed. (I've been wanting to get into breeding for quite some time now but just don't have the space for it)
8.A discus community would be lovely.
9.Leopoldi angelfish are something I want to try.
10.Shell dwellers will be fascinating to have and observe.
There are more but I can't remember the rest at the moment. Also, that "maybe more than one 75" was not a maybe, it was an almost guaranteed more than one :grinyes:

The 5' x 3.5' x 2' would be an upgrade for my two 75 gallons I'm currently running and be more appropiate as I was bad and gave into my temptations and over stocked it fish number wise and max size of fish wise. This tank going to happen one way or another and I'm not going to overstock it this time.
