New year tank plans?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I honestly didn't know if there was any difference between brands so I went with this one from Amazon
Is there a difference between the brands?

Also this is the brand of air line

Yeah theres usually differences in foam density between the brands. Some include airstones, some have better fittings...Afaik those ones are really similar to the hikari sponges and are pretty dense foam. Those are a good size though-roughly 4x8". Good for corners of tanks i would think.

For the money, I like the hygger pumps i use. Theyre powerful and quiet...you could probably power 4-5 of those adequately with one of the 10W hyggers. I would skip over most of the crap available at petsmart or petco though.

Thank you for telling me that, I appreciate it as I honestly didn't know there were any differences before.

Wow, I am quite impressed by this pump
I had found a few others that had a fair amount of reviews that stated it was basically a shot in the dark if you received one that would quit after a few months but this one seems to be quite good and the supposed amount of air it pushes sounds fantastic. For the price I'll give it a try. It'll be interesting to see if it pushes more air than mine

Yeah that hygger is the one im using on my 135 right now. For the price, noise level, and size, it packs quite a punch, even in a 36" tall tank. I use it hooked up to two aquatop 180s, which are larger, coarse foam sponges.

Afaik, the smaller version (5w) thats available is the same power per output but only has the one output, whereas the 10W has two. So that may be more versatile depending on your needs.

Good, reliable pumps for the money.

Edit:
Lol didnt look at the other link right away. If you already have that 18W pump i would just go with that. Itll easily work for all 6 of those sponges.

I do indeed already have the 18 watt pump, haha, it looks like I picked a winner when I first got it, the only downside (for some people) is that it's a decent bit loud.
My plans are to be able to run all tanks off of as few air pumps using the least amount of electricity so I'm always looking at other ones. I had actually been looking at the stronger versions of it or perhaps a second one as I'm planning around six 75 gallons, two 120 gallons, a 260, and nine 10 gallons. The tanks are subject to change depending on how things work out. I'm mainly trying to get as much beneficial bacteria I can get to grow for as little electricity usage without going into a sump.

Also I like the fake plant.

Well as far as bb goes, those sponges will grow it without even being hooked up to a pump. I keep all my sponges in a sump when not in use on other tanks. As long as theres water flowing around they serve as additional bio media and work great when you have to start tanks on short notice like i frequently do.

Lol thanks. Thats the only fake plant i still have and it is pretty cool. Found it at an lfs in northern va. Looked for more of them online but never found them. It had like a homemade label on the bag and it was just called "the plant" lol. Works good on my tall tanks though.
