Well, yesterday i got a 3" zig zag eel to grow out a bit in my 29 gallon tank. i new some of my fish might think he was food, so i got a dozen feeder guppies to satisfy my leaf fish and senegal. well he was at the bottom for a while and doing fine, and then he went into hiding and i havent seen him since. i'm looking now (12:30) because i heard they are night-dwellers.....still can't see him.

i'm hoping he is just hiding in my sand substrate and that my leaf, catfish or senegal didn't get to him.....

i bought a peacock eel in the middle of january, he was out at night, then he dissapeared, i figured my clown knife or small mouth bass got to him. then last week while viewing in the tank, there he was! i was like HOLY $*** WHAT IS THAT! his head was peaking out of the gravel, it took me a few minutes to figure it out. maybe hes well hidden like mine. i dont know what or how he eats because my fish in the tank is a clean up crew in itself. just check for a head peeking out because they like to burrow

grow out haaw well don't expect it to get much bigger i forgot just how small they are till i bought another but most spiny eels stay burried my peacock eel is never out even when i put night crawlers ion the tank he snakes throw the gravel grabs it then gos under again my old zig zags would come out sometimes mostly during food time but my fire eel hasn't burrowed once since i bought him a month or two ago i'm worried about that but it eats fine so we'll see but just look at all there bellys if you see a fat fish you may wan't to look a little harder to see if its still there

You don't have an undergravel filter do you? I was just think back when I was a kid I had to twice retrieve a peacock eel from under the filter plates.

same with my old tire track or what ever it was if you do make sure it fits your tank right even with a spot he could of eazily swam out of he some how got stuck or something and died :(

nope, hob filter. still haven't seen any sign of him. i'm thinking the worst has happened. i've lost around $40 to fish being eaten......sucks.

my peacock eel hides in the gravel and is just about invisible. I don't think that your senegal, leaf fish,or catfish got to him. Probably just hiding in the gravel look really close in the gravel. Check under big rocks or driftwood.

hey may have went to mexico i hear it nice this time of year........but seriously hes prob hiding plus hes new give some time before you jump to conclusions.....imo....could be wrong

My fire eels made their home in the Emperor 400 HOB filters. They would stay in front of the basket, as the water never flowed over the basket, so they could not make it past the basket. Might check the HOB. Mine went up where the water comes out into the tank, swam up under the bio-wheel, and into the filter compartment. That's where they stayed during the day, and they would come out at night.
