basically ima newb and need help. is there a website thatll answer all my questions regarding keeping reptiles or would you prefer i ask them here?

a. how big does a tegu get and how difficult to handle.

b. chiapas giant musk turtle. how difficult to keep. what size tank would i ultimately need when it reaches 14 inches.

whats the rule when it comes to playing with reptiles? can you let them out n just chill or are they more of a display item like fish?

You don't play with reptiles. If you plan on treating reptiles like you would a dog or cat then their not the pet for you. However there are really tame ones out there. I can't answer all those but I can answer "A". There are many species of tegu so you have to be more specific. I am going to give my advice based on the giant Argentine black and white tegu because it is what I have. Females grow to about 3ft and males top put at around 4ft. They are easy to tame down and a fairly mellow lizards that are easy to handle once tamed. They do eat a lot of food and need large cage sizes. I would not recommend them as a beginner lizard. There are better alternatives out there. I let mines out to free roam my room every day and I can handle her with ease. Hopefully someone else can answer your other questions.

Oh and google is a great resource for finding information. You should try it sometimes :).

I can tell you from a friend of mine who has a "herp zoo"- columbian and red tegu's are harder to tame- they tend to be more aggressive.

My friend has 10+ different turtles (breeds them), has a 7 ft american alligator, a 5 foot water monitor, breeding full size argentine tegus, 20+ yr old red tegu, the only breeding group of bottegi plated lizards currently known in captivity...

He works with DNR and lots of different zoos. I wanted a tegu, and being a newbie to herps as well, he told me to work my way up to a tegu.

come on ive read thru most of the stickys. n i could use some info especially concerning the chiapas bcuz theres nothing on here or google. wats approximate growth rate?

Why don't you just use GOOGLE?!

uswear i didnt google it lol i cnt find much about the chiapas giant musk turtle. i know they reach anywhere from 6" to 14". what size tank does that mean? how much water do they need

ive already read all of that. im interested in growth rAte. people who have had experience with the turtles. how big of a tank they will need to live comfortably.

do i need to create a habitat with land or will it like a canopy set up i see in a lot slider turtle setups.

Your best bet for answers/advice would be to join turtleforum.com
