Whenever you ask what fish can fit in a tank, you want to think about the adult size of the fish. Let's say the full size of a fish is 2 feet long. You can put a fish like that in a 4 foot tank even though technically it would fit. It would cause the fish health problems and stunted growth because the fish wouldn't have room to swim. There is no exact rule about this, it is using common sense that can help make your decisions for you. Welcome to the site.

i understand that mate , yes. i was just checking about the smaller species of arowana and said that in my first post .and thats why im asking about the gars now as someone reccommended them and the info online says they reach two foot ? thanks for the welcome note white15 ; ) its good to be here

I have a rocket gar or pike charican, they get avg 12" max 15" in aquariums. 90 gal is perfect!

U could keep a juvy aro until it hits 12"

Rocket gar get maximum 10" .. never seen one over 8" though.. they would fit in your tank and are also very interesting fish!:)

cheers guys , thats good news then. I must admit the rocket gar i had didnt seem to go past 12" , kind of stalled there . Any ideads for some interesting cichlids that would also be compatible size / tempermant wise ? for middle to bottom water ?:)

If you want cichlids I'd get rid of the silver sharks...they get huge, are very skittish and produce massive bioload ! ;)

i have got myself an ornate pim , around 8 ins long , but he seems to be fighting with my synodontis catfish , i have placed bogwood at either ends of the tank but he wont seem to settle into anywhere . will this calm down ? any help please !!
