hi guys, im relatively new to the aquarium scene (one previous only guppy and some plecos tank) i recently saw a picture of an Ornate Birchir on this forum, and thought it looked really cool (i think it was called Snr. Puff or something). ive been doing loads of research on it for about a week and am seriously considering buying one, just wondering if its a good idea since im not that experienced.
thanks

As long as you have a big enough tank, they're pretty easy to keep. They don't have any kind of difficult needs, but they are predators and are one of the species of poly that are notorious for eating smaller polys. Also, sometimes they can be aggressive towards other ornates, so it's usually recommended to keep only one ornate. They can be kept with most other fish of similar size, as long as the other fish are not overly aggressive.

They'll eat pretty much anything, pellets are usually recommended as a staple diet, however if you want to offer fresher foods such as tilapia fillets or shrimp, those are great too. They don't need great water quality, just keep up your water changes and they'll be fine. Ultimately, they're a pretty hardy and good-looking fish, I'd definitely recommend them.
