newbie ray.

if i were to get a ray as a beginner. what would my fellow forum members recommend for a total beginner at rays.?? i have a choice between rectic. hystrix. and a motoro.

I would recommend motoro. Motoro are for starters.

Motoros have long tails also......and the others are more sensitive...motoros are newbie hardie......

Good thing your moving out of CA otherwise you cant keep rays!

I agree....go with the motoro......much more likely to be forgiving to new ray keepers.

motoro all the way. are the puruvian "histrix" as hardy as a motoro or not?

I know first hand that motoros are hardier then retics. I had a very healthy retic for months and then I got a good deal on very sickly motoro so I bought her in hopes of saving her. Well about two weeks later my motoro was gaining weight and doing really good all the while my retic stayed healthy. Well one day I was doing a water change and I did not know it but my tap had an ammonia spike and to make a long story short my healthy retic died five days later while my motoro never even stressed!
