To all the newbies out there, the Bucket Brigade sucks...python all the way. But then again, I'm doing 250 gallon water changes and that's just a drop in the bucket compared to some of the big ballers here at MFK.

lol, I use a python for all my big tanks but I actually went back to buckets for a couple of my smaller tanks. Easier to drain water into a bucket then emtpy that rather than take the python out and hook it up just to drain a couple of gallons of water.

Then after you get tired of wasting all that water and the slow flow from the Python, you can move up to using a water pump & large trash can (2x35G trash cans; water pre-treated, aged, and aerated).

I pump out & pump in 60G in minutes. And I only use 60G of water.

500GPH pump ~ $60
35G trash can ~ $15

LOL, I ran a major fish dept in the '80s that had 70 tanks (spoms 55g)--that was way before anyone had the Python, nor did anyone think up a DIY for that pourpose. 50% weekly WC on all of them!

My husbands parents were serious fishkeepers during that time. There's a couple fish they had for 20+ yrs so they knew wtf they were doing. Ran all UGF with HOB for polishing because that was the best available at the time. I can't imagine the amount of maintanance that was needed. Their biggest tank was a 75g, but still I think he said they had at least 30 tanks, lol.

i bought my not realy python but same thing for 30 bucks brand new and i think it is awsome, however i am going to have to figure out something better for my 518 gallon, even something better the the garbage cans, i don't really have to worry about my tap water cuz it is wicked clean almost 0 clorine or other additives

Yeah, I forgot to mention, all those 70 tanks had UGFs on them.
