Hey guys Im a newb with a few questions. I've done basic freshwater fish keeping in the past (I was like 10) and Now that Im grown with a home of mine own I would like to get back in the hobby. I was on another forum looking for info and the answers I recieved were very inconsistant. So I came here to gather different opinions. Now on to the good stuff.

I've a 75gal tank, basic 4ft foot print, currently sitting empty. I would like to keep a JD or a GT, as I was told I couldnt not keep both in this tank. Ideally I would like to keep two of either fish as a bonded or mated pair. This is where those answers got very inconsistant. So is this possible with this size tank? Bigger tank is not a current option. More questions to follow based on replies. Thanks for taking the time.

IMO you could either do a JD and GT or a pair of either in the 75. I'd grow them out as juveniles together either way, to improve your chances of success, but I think they're pretty good either way.

A pair of any of these fish will thrive in the 75g........I would go with the Green Terror..........JD's just seem to common right now............Plus the size of the forehead, the kok, is a lot more dramatic in the Green Terrors than that of the Jack Demsey.......Order your pair from a wholesaler...........Lots of stuff has been going around with weird weak genes..........

If i were you i would do a pair of gt's. A pair will be fine in a 75.. To get a pair I would go buy a group of 6 and let them pair off naturally and get ride of the rest..

It's possible, but I wouldn't recommend it. There isn't enough space to keep the female safe during breeding, or worse if they just don't get along well. Unless you really want to breed them (do you have another tank to move the fry to? they will be eaten if kept in) I would go with a solo and then add some dithers for movement. And a pictus or raphael catfish for leftovers. I'd also do the GT over the JD because they are my favorites, but also because they are less shy and more active.

Edit: I see answers are already getting inconsistent thanks to me, sorry about that. But again, I agree it's possible, I just don't like giving advice that can blow up on people.

I agree.........Buying six will have a pair bond and breed within 2 months........The excess, you deal with...........I normally throw them out like loose feeders..........

I would go with the GT'S as well. I would treat for internal parasites as they seem quite prone to them. Also keep them on a high veggie diet, lot's of peas. They seem to get intestinal issues on high protein diets.

Thank you everyone for your quick and CONSISTANT replies! I see this was a good move on my part and clearly a more active and helpful forum. I was kind of leaning for toward to GT's anyway so thanks for telling me what I wanted to hear lol. Next question, dither fish. Do I need them? What should I be looking at? Old forum said silver dollars?
