Hopefully Mark (Scat) or Jer (P_P) can help you out with that, as well as the ID's. They are both great with crennies! Not that there aren't others here that are great with them as well, they're just usually the quickest to answer.

I dug up some old photos of when my pikes were juvies. Maybe they'll help with the classification. First one is from the first post in the thread and the other two are of the 2nd pike i posted.

The first is certainly sveni. I'm not sure about the second. Great looking pike though!

Wow!! Very impressive!! Don't normally see new people joing the Crenicichla forum and the post up pictures of their Crenicichla lacustris!! That awesome! :D Did you get it from Rapps perhaps? Either way, great fish man!! Taz is spot on about it being male as well, at least from the pictures that are currently up for viewing pleasure! :D

Your sveni looks awesome as well! Appears to be a male too! :D Great fish!! You should try to find him a lady, they look great as pairs!! :D

As for bringing the lacustris out of hiding, thats going to be a challenge. There are a few tricks you can try though. One is spray painting the back and sides black. This will make the tank appear darker, plus there will be less 'noise' from those sides of the tank, making the pike feel more comfortable. Adding dithers is definately something that helps. Silver dollars work best for this, but so do fast moving food fishies like giant danios...;). Another thing that helps would be to get him in a larger tank. 125gal and larger might just be what he needs to start feeling more comfy in his surroundings. :)

Hope that was a little help! ;) So far it looks like everyone has given sound advice as it is, so I'm just being a broken record!! ;) Best of luck! Welcome to the family of Crenicichlaholics! :D
