[Hatch]

I am two weks into the hobby and enjoying it very much. 30 gal tank with two aulonocara jacobfriebergi 1.5" (two weeks). Water is ok and I just added two Copadichromis Borleyi. Will they get along? will the A. jacobfriebergi dominate?
Is there an eisier way to heat 3 five gal pails of water than placing them in a tub full of hot water to get them to 79 deg.? In a couple of months I am thinking of setting up a "monster tank" and do not look forward to heating 50-100 gal. of water every week!!!!!

Yeah, just treat hot water.

Sure but the hot water in the 80 gal boiler mate goes through the water softner first. when I fill 5 gal pails I go into the basement and push the water softner by pass lever.

When i use tap water without the by pass it is very soft and no good for the fish.

Is there something I could add to make it hardere without screwing arround with the water chemestry too much?

if you have a mixer tap run hot and cold at the same time and you should be able to judge the temp my tank is set at 81 degs and i guess the water temp out the tap and its always 80 degs

Yes, you can add something to increase water hardness.
