ah hem.
This isn't the right way to start......
I just find this: "i could care less for life...there's rivers and lakes all over the place if i need more i can get em"

Hard to understand

i bought the shiners as feeders anyway...they were just left overs from fishing. and quit pulling all of this peta crap on me anyway. all these fish were living in junk conditions in heavily polluted rivers and are much healthier in my tanks.

thanks aquaman but i'm not really new to mfk

Alright Bukster.......PETA? what makes you think I'm a PETA type?

You said:"i could care less for life...there's rivers and lakes all over the place if i need more i can get em...and there's no madtoms, sunfish are hard to come by."

I made a snarky comment (which wasn't necessary) then asked a simple question.

Based on your comments here, it's only reasonable to assume that you intend to either kill or release the following fish....20 or so shiners 4-5", 5 bluegill, 4 channel cats and possibly madtoms and "sunfish" if you happen to find them ..

So back to the original question....Can you explain what you mean when you say " you don't care for life"? And "there's rivers and lakes all over the place".

What do these two statements mean? I can only assume you intend to kill them for some reason or let them go. Which is it or tell us more.

Welcome to MFK :mwave:

sorry didn't mean to get pissy...had a bad few days. but what i meant my don't care for life is i don't intend to keep the fish for their lifetime. i eventually intend on releasing them back to the same spot where i caught them after properly actlimating them. reason being there aren't too many decent sized or aged fish around here anymore because of weiner fishermen catching and eating every little 3month old channel cat they get. just trying to the little big that i can to preserve the wildlife we have left around here without going to the extrememes that PETA does and give people that care a crappy name.

plus i like to watch em and get a little better aquainted with their living habbits. i like to know as much about my natives as i can and a lot can't be learned from reading forums like these.

oh almost forgot. the shiners were initially for the perch to mow on but when i left the bait shop i realized the shiners they had were like 4-5" long and way to big for the perch.

Hey Bukster....I started the "pissing contest". Sorry about that.

Believe it or not, it's against the law (and very bad for native fish) to release any fish you've had in captive care. While you have the fish in your care, you might not even know it but you can spread disease. Think about how many tropical diseases the shiners you purchased came in contact at the pet shop. They usually have a central filtration system which means that basically all of the fish are in the same water.

This country is currently dealing with a very terrible virus that was due to water release in the great lakes. thousands and thousands of fish can die in a single outbreak. It's called viral hemorrhagic septicemia (OR VHS).

Basically it's important to never release any fish anyplace once you have taken it home. It's also against the law. The rule is.....once you take it home it's yours for life. If you make a mistake and the fish is too big for your tank, it's much better to kill the fish rather than release it.

Sorry for the lecture but this is a very real problem that we must take seriously.

Hooray! Another TOOL involved in the native hobby!
Teleost, do you think this moron will even spend a minute thinking about what you have told him? He won't. He does not care, hell I am sure that if he had a convenient spot to do so he would change his oil in a creekbed. Bukster please go back to cichlids.

skipjack go back to stroking u'r bass. i know more about fish than u ever will. keep u'r opinions to u'r own damn self
