If you plan to buy a flowerhorn, beware of this site... I doubt they are quality fry he is selling...

Here's what happened when I entered live support chat with one of the "techs."

Chris:
Do you have pictures of the actual Flowerhorns you're selling?
Welcome Chris! Your request has been directed to the Customer Service department. Please wait for our operator to answer your call.
Call accepted by operator kt. Currently in room: Chris, kt.
kt:
No, we do not provide actual pictures.
Chris:
Is it because they're really not high quality?
kt:
The picture is of a fish of the same strain that is very similar to the one you would receive. We do not take pictures of the actual fish for sale. They are AA++.

Taking pictures of the exact fish for sale is very time consuming and the entire process will take between one half and a full hour. It also entails separating the fish in a separate tank and holding it there for days until it is ready to be shipped, as we would otherwise not be able pick it out from the others in the tank they are currently in. If we were to do this for every fish we sold, we would have to significantly increase our prices.
Chris:
Even the 3 - 4 inch flowerhorns don't have seperate pics?
Chris:
Because those should already be seperated anyway.
Chris:
Once they're that size.
kt:
Once again, we do not offer seperate pictures of the fish.
Chris:
But aren't those fish already seperated?
Chris:
Or do you just keep them all together?
kt:
Have a good day. There is nothing more to be said.

I doubt they are quality Flowerhorns.. so, buyers beware. Like his site says,"Somethings fishy..."

THATS FROM SOMETHINGSPHISHY???????

thank you I was thinking about ordering some of those!!

I thought that was kinda sketchy how it wasn't their pics and they just claimed for them to be that one.

that saves me a lot of time and money, I can't believe that!

thanks for posting this ayobreezie this is good info!

To play the devil's advocate, growing tons of plants, I can imagine it would be very difficult to take photos of 100's or 1000's of fish. If it was truly a "one of a kind" that's different, but having seen many FH's, most look quite almost alike.
I think you'd be better off looking for one in person, rather than online, if you're "that" picky about what you're looking for.

I can also see where the seller would be getting frustrated, too. I'm not saying you shouldn't have done this, I'm just looking at both points of view.

Well thatd be ok if they just said that they had red flowerhorns or something, but they used someone elses pictures of the fish.

It wasn't like they bred them from that fish or anything. And thats what makes flowerhorns so expensive. They will jack up the price when really they aren't selling what they claim they are.

The fish WOULD indeed be separated if all of them were "AA++" quality. I've talked with this guy before. He deals in large quantities of fish and is not someone I would ever go to if I was looking for a really good quality Flowerhorn. When buying a Flowerhorn, you should ALWAYS be able to get en exact photo of the fish that you will be purchasing. Don't accept anything less.

I would definitely recommend Flowerhornrus.com or Flowerhornusa.com. They both have buy/sell sections and I believe both sites still do "group buys" from overseas. Good luck finding your new pet.

Yeah.. what he told me was... " The picture is of a fish of the same strain".. could be same strain, but 10 - 15 % of flowerhorn fry batches are actually the only quality fish.. and by 3 - 4 inches, you can basically tell it's potential.. and they should be seperated by then anyway because of aggressiveness.. if not seperated, torn fins, dead fish, etc.. so, he should at least have pictures of his 3 - 4 inch fish if he's selling them online.. because most every Flowerhorn seller I see online sell fish 3 inches and above with individual pictures.. if you're going to buy a $70 fish from him, wouldn't you want to see how it'll look? If he can't even accomodate those 3"+ fish properly then, why didn't he cull off or sell his fry sooner? I wouldn't pay $9.95 for an "Ultra-Red Warrior" Flowerhorn 1-2".. because of the fact that "Ultra Red Warrior" is unheard of.. and because of the fact that they're $10 a piece. For what may or may not be quality fry.. he could at LEAST post photos of the parents.. or a photo of the tank they're housed in..

I ordered from somethingsfishy and I think the fish were very beautiful so yeah like you said it would be very hard to take hundreds of pics every time you get new fish would be insane
