Thanks CTU2fan

Just went out to check on everyone with the temp going down and the pond temp is 65.7. Check the heater controller and it's off. Pull the heater(titanium) and most of the exterior looks like it's rusted. Put in the backup heater(400 watt) and put the tarp over it. Did notice before doing so that everyone was swimming around like normal, including the aro. Hope it doesn't get too much colder while I order another heater.

i hope not either... here it is going down below zero and for the next few days single digits.. awful winter..good luck

That is such a great idea really looking good. I'm just jealous it's too cold in Illinois.

Last two mornings have checked and temp has been down to 63. Checked under the cover and everyone is swimming around just fine. So far so good, need to get heaters going again.

Didnt read the whole thread, but what do you got for filtration?

Submersible pump, reinforced hose, 32 gallon garbage can, tall laundry basket, a number of different fittings and a lot of scrubbies topped with a coarse pond filter pad.

We have a ghetto pond in our front yard....dug the hole...lined it with a tarp....and put a deck around the whole thing with an awning above it..
The only bad part is i have to bring in the KOI and Goldfish for the winter...
