Very nice!! How do tell the different between tropical and Florida gar?.. look real similar!
 
difinitive traits:
tropical gar has a broader snout, young has trident pattern on head.

other traits:
most of the time, florida have a more spotted patterng whereas trops have blotches/stritations. trops usually have larger fins compared to florida gar.

note that all gars have 2 rows of teeth, so if you see 2 rows on the upper jaw it doesn't mean you have a gator or trop. it could also be a florida.

the tooth rows are still diagnostic, but it's not the presence of the rows of teeth, but the prominence of the rows of teeth. Lepisosteus genus (such as the Florida) gars will have only one prominent row of teeth, with a very small second row. Atractosteus genus gars (like the tropical) will have two prominent rows of teeth in the upper jaw.--
