A little update. He about the same length, just getting a bigger belly. Do his gills look red? They've been like this since I got him. Water parameters are all good except 5ppm of nitrate.

Looks ok, still thin in the body. Good to see a little full tummy.

The gill plates are thin and somewhat transparent, which is normal.

...Water parameters are all good except 5ppm of nitrate.

Except? 5 ppm nitrate is usually considered good (there are caveats).

Thanks everyone. It's hard to tell if he eats because it's always at night. My bichirs also eat everything in sight so it's hard to make sure he has food. I'm hoping he will start bulking up soon.
