Thanks and I'm enjoying the camera. I was out yesterday snapping photos. I've also been reviewing the 2 dvd's that Nikon included with my camera/lens bundle. They're very informative.

I feel you. Been playing around with my new camera as well. Love it. Playing around with the new glass I got, getting to know (with my current lenses) what I'm looking to really get out of the camera.

Nice camera, the D5000 was one of the cameras I looked into before making my purchase.

What make and model did you end up getting?

I did some extensive research on the D5000, D3000, D40, D40X and D60. These were my top picks, especially the D60. But along with doing the research about Nikons I continuously ran into competitors like Canon. The rebel series, mainly the XSi. The XSi had just about everything the D60 had to offer. The only thing left was to see it in person, so i marched down to the camera store to see them in person. I held and played with all the Nikons, then it came down to the Canon series, Once i held the Rebel XSi I fell in love. Sadly 90% of my research was into Nikons. But the feel and handling of the Canon just felt more comfortable, I liked the layout of the buttons and some little features the camera had. So I walked into the store with the D60 in mind, but walked out with the Rebel XSi. But after spending such a long time looking into popular DSLR's I've build quite a repect for all DSLR's.

yeah you really cant go wrong with nikon or canon. as with any hobby, there will be the purists and brand loyalists who swear by one brand and say the other is crap. cameras from both of these brands are amazing and will most of the time produce comparable results between the two.

i have read though that for fast action and sports you want nikon. for landscapes and ultimate detail in a large landscape shot, you want canon. but you're talking pro-level equipment with pro skills here.

for me, ive always loved nikon as a brand. they have awesome optics in all areas. when it came time for a scope on my hunting rifle, i went with nikon. so naturally i stuck with nikon for my DSLR :D
