today while i was gone my dad was mowing and he found a newt or a salamander of some tight..it was nearly freezing out today so my dad brought it inside and warmed it up and waited for me to get home..so confused on what to do i put it a rubber maid container with water and some dry land but now i really dont know what to do with it...it is supposed to get warmer this week so should i release him back into the wild

much help appreciated

i have no idea what kind it is if u want a pic of it let me know

Can i have a pic plz i would keep him i always wnted a slamander s pic would help thanks

Not hard to keep a newt just feed tiny bits of worms, give him a wet and dry part to stay. It might be better to leave him outside as some species have to do things before winter comes around, like fatten up and go underground.

yeh i dont really want to keep him but since it is nearly freezing outside right now i didnt want to put him outside again and have him freeze to death

anybody else have any input on what i should do with this guy

i can keep him tho if i need to

Let him go near where you found him. Salamanders laugh at cold. I've seen many a newt or Ambystoma swimming under the ice. If your salamander is black with white or silvery crossbands, it is probably a marbled salamander on its way to the breeding ponds; they lay their eggs at the edges of woodland ponds in the fall and stay with them until the ponds fill; their larvae get a jump start on their winter- and spring-breeding cousins this way.

PICS PLZ
would you ever consider keeping it or would that go agaisnt your morals of keeping a wild creature?

Just keephim thats what i would pics Plz

Smallmouth salamander, Ambystoma texanum. These are late winter/early spring breeders, but if it's a male he may be heading to the breeding pond to wait for the arrival of the females. I suggest you return him to the spot where you found him and give him the chance to pass on his genes. They are very boring captives in any case- they burrow down and stay hidden about 95% of the time.
