next breeders?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
All some are trying to get at is that there have been extremely experienced keepers out there that have spent years trying to acheive that goal.
Painstakingly regulating diet, temp, light output, water chemistry (and ten other things I can't think of) into peaks and lows attempting to stimulate a breeding response. And have FAILED.
Breeding Nattereri is for lack of a better term....nothing compared to breeding say Rhombeus.
I can only think of Shedd aquarium successfully breeding S. rhombeus once some time ago. And to the best of my knowledge, has not been tried again since.

If you have successfully bred Pygocentrus Nattereri that is outstanding. If you're looking to breed another species of piranha, then my suggestion would no doubt be Serrasalmus maculatus which would be more challenging but alot more doable then almost all other species.

Please don't take this as an insult but by the way you have posted in this thread, Cepon3 hit the nail on the head, thats whats creating sarcasam from other members.
Scientists and extremely advanced keepers have spent years trying to accomplish what you are coming off like "would be fun to try to do this week...."
Thats why you're getting the "Whatever dude" response.
..........Serrasalmus Maculatus if you're serious. Good luck.

Thanks, I don't really articulate thoughts that well

I would be the first to congradulate you and give you my opinions as well as share my knowledge with you if your seriously going to try.

I tried breeding my brandtii some years ao and got a nice cohab with what I believed to be a pair. I failed not to aggression but to old age of one of the specimens, like I say all the time don't let them tell you it can't be done but you have to have some sort of plan of attack before I would even begin to believ that your serious.

I have a new tank in the works 8'x4' ft print. I want more piranhas.if I keeping em might as well try n breed em n if I'm breeding I want some that rare(but obtainable)that not everyone has or breeds.i understand some are just to big for my (plan)idea. I understand all the triggers in nature (daylight hours, drought, rainy season, food or lack of, to rivers chemistry changing to the added sediment in the water during rainy season.I understand some predators are loners except that certain time of year when all the conditions are perfect to pull them together. N only then will they breed.I've kept n bred many fish from the south American rivers. I never said I was going to breed rhoms, piraya or whatever.I want new piranhas n was asking everyones thoughts on some of the hardest to breed these are usually the rarer ones too.n for thinking I don't have a "plan"or just looking for the fish of the week is wrong.I've kept n cared for amazon fish for 20+ years.I'm not a newbie wondering how to treat the pimple on my oscars chin or how to sex them either. I understand the amazon triggers better than most!

Oh wow, this guy is still posting?

Sorry if this offends you, but I first saw you post in this forum about a week ago, and I was 99% certain you were a troll.

For starters, if you want advice, don't come off as so high and mighty. I actually saw in another thread that you wrote you have mastered piranhas.
It also wouldn't hurt your cause to try and format your opinion in anything other than a huge run-on sentence with a couple of randomly placed periods for good measure.

I'm still 50/50 on the troll.

This will probably get deleted by a MOD because it offers very lil to the discussion but the original poster doesn't sound too much different then CEPON3 when he use to post about his co habs back in the days. Same "high and mighty" vibe being given off. Same sarcastic and non belief responds being given. Not implying it's the same person but it's just amusing to see the shoe on the other foot, the crap literally being given to the person who use to get crapped on.

Anyways, best of luck with whatever you try to the original poster.

When you address someone you may want to give a name so people know who your talking to.

Don't compare myself to a person who has no real goal. My high and mighty attitude comes from confidence built by exprience and research with a single specie. Most people have never even seen the specie I was working with let alone own a handful of specimens. I didn't post on this forum asking what I should do next, I merely wanted to share photos with fellow members of my fish. Which was immediately followed by members with no experience with the specie flaming me for my ideas.. please understand the fustration.

If you noticed my lack of participation in my old thread is because I refuse to argue with people, and then the rest of you act like savages and start argueing with eachother.. shows the amount of brain cells the congregate around here.

Lol everyone ragging or what? IMO thought forumes were for learn what works for other people n maybe learning something new, helpn people, meetn like minded MFK's. Damn everyone chill lil!

There's so many contradicting things about what you say CEPON3 but i refuse to go down that route. Your experience and knowledge IS appreciated though (when you feel fit to share it that is).

Sorry for the derail to everyone else.
