Next Piranha: Manny or Piraya?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Besides the faster growth, does Piraya possess a more outgoing personality?

Pygo tend to swim more and be more active than Serras, but can be a lot less aggressive. Getting a finger chaser or one that is aggressive is case by case for all piranha. You might get some that are aggressive and you might get some that hide all day. At least with a pygo they will swim.

My manny before I sold him used to hide behind a piece of decoration anytime I was in the room. I removed the decoration and he will still go hide away from me. The only time he was out was when I was not in the room.

Once my rhom passes and my 180g is free, I will either try to pick up a large piraya from that individual I mentioned as he is selling all of his, or an aimara.

Thanks bro nzafi.

At the moment I am still undecided. It will about a month before the supplier gets the booking. :)

A Piraya sounds really cool too. Coincidentally, my Aimara will be arriving in a couple of hours. :)

Really depends on the size of the Manny imo. If I had to guess it will probably come in at around the same size we always get them here (4-6 inches). If the Manny were 10+inches I would choose the manny hands down. I highly doubt one will be imported that big though, they dont ship well at that size.

I would go manny, I just got Nzafi's manny and I put him in a 180gal and he is 6" s I would say, he swims dead center of the tank. sometimes its about placing piranha's in larger then normal tanks with different hiding places. Nothing wrong with dividng tanks and having small tanks, however i always been a fan of the larger the better. Personally i like both fish and when the price is right I will get a piraya.

Thanks for the further enlightenment.

I was under the impression of the space is too big without any dithers; the fish would freak out easily.

Do you have a lot of hiding spaces in the big tank for your manny or is it pretty devoid?

Glad he is doing well. I am really sad about letting that guy go and I think if you weren't a member that had been keeping piranha for so many years, I would have held onto him.

Red Aimara - It is all about the individual fish. Some do better in large tanks, and some do better in small tanks.

Ive had some decent size rhoms and mannys and imo if the solo fish isnt aggressive or mad crazy go with a caribe shoal..... nothing like watching a group of pygos eat
