NFL May Eliminate Kick Offs?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This reminds me of the south park episode 'sarcastaball'

I think it's a huge deal if they did but I'm sure they won't because they want the games as close as possible.....schianos idea is an interesting alternative. They would have to use an idea like that because you still want the possibility of late game comeback via return or onside kick

I think his rule would raise the value of kickers considering that teams are more likely to just kick the field goal if the other team doesn't get a first down on their "kickoff' thereby reducing how competitive the games are. Then again, this would encourage rougher defensive play as the defense would know that it would be the much easier to get great field position for the offense.

Eliminate the most boring play in football. sounds good.

Only teams going for it would be those that need to make a comeback. 95% of the time the team is going to just punt the ball away. Realistically not really much different then a kickoff.

Do you really think its the most boring play ? I find punts less appealing

Yes, especially now that the kickoffs are moved up and the biggest percent are touchbacks. Punts can be interesting or as boring as a fair catch. Pretty exciting though when your punter and coverage team can pin the opponent inside theyre own 5 yard line.

the helmet to helmet hits and the forearm to the facemask should be a reviewable play. i hate this rule because the refs are getting it wrong 40 percent of the time. you see a guy crack another with his shoulders hitting the other guys chest and they throw a flag. that costs teams games. to much catering to the offense and not letting the defense play. nfl just wants the scoreboard lit up because they think it draws more ratings. overall it they get rid of kickoffs i would quit watching the game.
