John, I am not sure I understand..you keep on adding Prime to a stabilized tank? why? isn't the bacteria population established in your tank?

its a model A12.... i change about 1200 gallons a day for the two big tanks.....its a lot of prime which i get in 20 liter containers from a wholesaler.....

I dont know that filters would handle that volume for very long :D
20 liter containers.... wow... how long that last you?

yikes... ammonia will be in water.... i think john method will be better... here is what i got back

ammonia will be in the product water. Chloramine is made by adding ammonia to chlorine water creating a long lasting ionic bond. Carbon breaks the bond by leaves ammonia as a by-product.

20l=20000ml >> 200000 gallons or approx 166 days...... if my math is correct.........:)

the prime binds the ammonia ( harmless) and allows the bio filter to eat it:)

I always assumed that the amount of ammonia left from the breakdown of chloramines would be insignificant and be handled by a good bio filter. No need to remove the ammonia. Consider if the source treated water resulted in a 5ppm ammonia reading, and that source only constituted 25% of the total volume of the system, you're talking about a 1ppm increase to the entire system, which shouldn't cause a problem for the bio filter.
