Nicaraguan Compatibility

I have mine with an egjd in a 125 and plan on upping the stock this weekend with something along the lines of thorychthis, severums, archocentrus or geophagus. I havent had mine long but they seem similar to severum where as its peaceful enough for smaller less aggressive fish but big enough and tough enough to stand up against some more aggressive fish. I would say that you have a shot with anything less aggressive than a gt and tougher than a discus.

Sajica are on my list of fish I'm hoping to pick up at a fish auction in Chicago this weekend. If I find some I'll also try to get a thorychthis ellioti or pasiones and a rainbow and keep it ca, if not I'll try to get a colony of geophagus of some sort.

I had awfull luck with sajica(all6 succomed to bloat) but they got along well with my younger nics. My older 4.5" nics are housed with mollies. they chase occasionally but IMO they leave other species alone. They do tend to be shy so dither fish are a good idea. Small semi-aggressive fish would do well with them. Or even small aggressive fish like convicts IMO would do well also.

monte, are those 2 males? or male/female? they look male/female ( male is the bigger looking one and female is the smaller looking one or atleast to me they do )

I agree. Nice tank and stock too..

Thanks. Ya they are a pair.

Male Nics typicaly are much larger and have red spotted fins. Less blue and not as noticable horizontal black line as they mature.

Females typicaly have a gold/orange belly. Blue head and blue dorsal. They also keep the black horizontal line as adults.

I wanted to ask about that(sorry to derail the topic a bit) My nics are starting to color up. Do you find that females at any point have the spotting on the dorsal fin? Mine has the vertical line AND spotting on the dorsal fin. And how do the black ruby barbs work for you? I was thinking of adding them to my tank.

By the way your nics are gorgeous!
