Nice Cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would agree with Mark and see if you can aquire a synspilum at 4"+ so the oscar doesnt get any ideas. my syn is just a juvie right now at 3" but i see no aggression from him with the FM's or rainbow cichlids who are about an inch smaller. a lot of people regard them as one of the tamer viejas.
pearsi
chocolate cichlid
severums
pike cichlids
GT
another oscar but i dont know how they are when trying to introduce a 2nd one.

if you like the look of a certain fish but cant get one local to you it is worth enquiring about ordering online and the fish being delivered to you from tri-mar or wildwoods, places like that.

Yes you really can get a lot of cichlids if it's just the Oscar, was thinking about Paersei myself as well, or Bocourti. Green Terrors don't get huge.. but still reach decent size.
Personally I think you can get away with most cichlids, just not anything too aggressive (no Amphilophus, Parachromis). Although even that might work, but I wouldn't advise it.

I cant say no amphilophus, especially with my stock. Occasionally you win the gamble, my 9.5" midas has been in with angels as well and she cannot hang with rough fish like cons as she gets bullied.
While it has worked out very for me I would not recommend trying this as generally midas dominate a tank and need to hang with a tougher crowd.

As for parachromis, you may get away with a freddy or loisellei but they are hard to come by in the UK. They are the 2 most peaceful members of that group.

id reccommend something like,
2x oscars
6x silver dollars
6x sun catfish

Jack Dempseys usually go good with Oscars. Bocourti seem to grow very quickly and are typically good community fish....maybe a Pearsi...both get very large.
