Best way to reseal the old slate bottoms is to put a thin piece of glass over the slate. Without it the seams seem to fail.

That's the weird thing about it....I resealed all of the seams-six connection points and their entire lengths and I let it sit for about two days before I filled it...I think it held water for about a month before I noticed it was starting to lose liquid.

Wow, it probably was something to do with the slate, we should all give what the guy I thanks said a try with the thin pane of glass over the slate

Yeah, that's an interesting tip.

That's what everybody who has one locally has done. My buddy has a 50B metaframe That's been running for years without issue. Because of the extra pane over the bottom.

IIRC - if your going to seal one without the extra pane you use a different sealant. It's more like a tar & you have to submerge it while it dries.

To be honest...I'm not that crazy about the metal-framed tanks with slate bottoms. The term "vintage" doesn't hold the same "curiosity" for those of us old enough for something like this to have been "state of the art" when we were younger.

But hey from a functionality standpoint...if someones needs the extra tank space...it will get the job done (ugly as it may be).;)lol
