Julie's shop in San Jose is FlowerhornsFromBeyond. You might be familiar with this shop. There are tons of local breeder in the bay area too(actually the bay area is where most of the die hard FH guys are at).

True Tan King flowerhorns are not being made anymore. Many breeder try to imitate Tan King flowerhorns but they come nothing close like the original strain. If you manage to find the true strain of Tan King, these flowerhorns never run under $800 even at 4". You'll probably get it for cheaper if you are very lucky. Other than that, all I got to say is...good luck finding a Tan King.

FlowerhornsFromBeyond is going to be your best bet. Every single of their fish is from overseas, top quality fish are from overseas. Breeder cull about 300-500 frys and sell the best looking frys only. Local breeder, lucky if you can catch the top 5-10% best looking ones(they will look the same until some time is put in, so it gets difficult). Like my kamfamalau, out of the 5 I hand netted, only 1 guy was lucky enough to start showing colors and great pearls structure. The rest look the same still plain.
