hey everyone. hope all ya'll are doing good.

I have a 125g tank with a breeding pair of Nics, a Cuban, two little African cichlids (targets), and a variety of community fish. FOR THE LIFE OF ME, I can not breed these fish successfully. They get in their breeding dress and do their little dance, clean their area, and I feed them bloodworms and do the water change trick, but no luck. Anyone have any success breeding these fish???

(i think it may be because of the Cuban (Rex), but when I watch the tank the Nics are defending their little territory and standing up to him.)

here's some old pics of what they look like....although they are a bit bigger now. I can never get a shot of them together....

Nice pair! I've been unsuccessful in keeping breeding pairs in community tanks (other cichlids then nics).
It sounds like they are trying though. Maybe give it time or separate them.

your best bet is to seperate them, i had the same problems with pink convicts before! and once i seperated them, the next day there were eggs! or even if the only fish that are in your tank in just cichlids then it will be fine and they will breed because there is other species of the same family in the tank:) be of lucky to you

Good looking pair! I had the same problems with my Nics. I have a 135gal with multiple CA pairs and everyone had successfully spawned except them. They would go through the pre-spawning motions just as yours do but never officially do the deed. Last week I came across two mature female Nics and decided to add them to my tank in hopes my male would maybe pair off with one of the new females. Two days after adding them my male had paired off and spawned with one of them... What this all means, I don't really know. I guess my male simply didn't like my original female (or vice verse). I would try adding another female or two and see what happens. It's also possible that your male or female may be infertile.

Good luck!
