What is the general growth rate on these guys?

They're both in a 90g with some other fish right now. The niger is probably 4 1/2 inches, maybe a little less, and the grouper is around the same length. How long do you think they'll last in a 90g?

I couldn't find any info whatsoever on honeycomb grouper, other than that they're a game fish in some places and get around a foot long. They're supposedly fairly common, but info on them in aquariums seemed to be nonexistant.
He was sold to us as a spotted grouper and the LFS has no idea what a honeycomb grouper is.

Scientific name is Epinephelus merra

Any other info would also be appreciated. :)

A dwarf fuzzy, a large yellow tang (going back to the fish store soon), and a 1 1/2 foot black edge moray.

I heard the trigger may end up nipping at the lionfish, but as of yet he hasn't noticed him. The grouper and lionfish were just moved in there yesterday from my 75g.

If the trigger ends up showing aggression to anyone he can be moved to his own tank.

Ya your lucky because the niger is one of the least agressive triggers. Just keep him well fed and the chance of him going after the lion will be small. I would say you could keep everything in your tank for about 1 3/4 years. TAfter this you might have to get rid of your larger fish unless you want to spend more time on keeping your tank up.

I'm not getting rid of any of them. The moray, grouper and/or trigger are going into a 220g eventually with more eels. The lionfish will stay in the 90g. I was just wondering when we would most likely end up having to upgrade since we'd rather not do so until we buy our own house. A year is definately enough or more time than we need :D

Thats a nice looking grouper. I dig his pattern. . .and his adult size :).
It's kinda funny how many of the sweet looking groupers don't get 3ft long lol.
I was thinking about adding a V-Tail (Cephalopholis urodelus) when I upgrade my guys to a 150 or larger in a year or so. V-tail's stay wee to.

Well. . .wee by MFK standards. LOL.

My coworkers make fun of me all the time for saying things like "These don't get very big. Only 18 inches or so."

Eh. . .that MFK sticker is on my car for a reason.

LOL.
Yeah, me and my husband's parents think we're nuts when we say stuff like that. They thought our first 90g tank was HUGE and had no idea why we'd get bigger tanks.

I'm glad our grouper ended up being the species he did. We were thinking we were just gonna grow it up and then have to sell it, but now that we know it only gets a foot long or so we have the means to keep him.

I'll have to get more pics of him. He's in the rocks A LOT so it's hard to catch him close enough to the glass to get a good pic, but he has some spectacular patterns and colors depending on his mood. Sometimes he gets these spots on the edges of his fins and his face that kind of glow green, it's really cool.
