Recently it's been hot around here and I have been killing it at the lake at night with a few black topwater lures. The rattling ones are working best and it's been great to find some success at night. I plan on going out tonight but I have a question if anyone can answer it. It's much colder today, less humidity and around 75 degrees, whereas the other times ive been out it was in the upper nineties all day and humid as hell until the sun went down. My question is will I still be productive using the same tactics or should I possibly change from topwater lures to a different presentation seeing as the weather is different. I noticed a marked improvement at night when the days were super hot, so will there be a similar drop off now that the fish can feed comfortably before sundown. Like to pop at least one tonight but if the forecast is slow I may need to bring a couple extra beers. Any Jedi's out there who could give me some tips or predictions? Thanks.

I fished at night alot last year for the first time ever. I learned that everything thats workd in the daylight, works at night too!! My favorite for both light and dark is the buzzy baby!!!

The old timers were beatting the brakes off me at the night fishing tournaments with the worm when the water temp was above 75!!

Ive been catching them only at night i went in the morning and got one fish. Came later they would strike the worm as soon as it hit the water.

Is night time fishing better than sunlight time fishing? Can fish see my bait at night? Just a curious question.

When it gets really hot they go deep and arnt very active so when it gets dark they prowl the shallows due to cooler temps. Black lures are used for a better silhouette against the sky. But anything that causes splashes and has vibration works well. Actually im about to head out to start some night fishing.

Oh yeah they do. just use black, when the fish look up it silouettes great in the moonlight. (Allegedly at least, Im not a fish so I just assume it's true.) Cichlid Fiends right, buzz baits are awesome because they kick up a nice commotion and make their presence known. Black jitterbugs work great too. I just assumed the fish were like me, if it's hot enough in the day they wait until it cools off a bit until they go out on the prowl. It's not been uncommon for me to catch back to back bass on the same lure, almost right in the same spot. Seems like they are all on the same program. Fishing at night is great and I recommend it fully. Usually you have the lake all to yourself and can lay back with some friends and just enjoy the night. It's also much cooler out too, summer sucks in the east, feels like you can chew on the air. All in all, it's where its at. Even if your not catching anything it's very peaceful. But on really hot days, if Im right, you will.

Just got back, in an hour and a half me and my friend Nester caught about 18 bass and 5 jumbo bluegill. When there was some light out worms were killin it. Once it got dark we switched to top water and were catching a fish every cast.

I was the same way but after catching bass on black six inch u-tails im believer that the can see just as good, if not better!!

My buddy and I only got one bass a piece. I'm thinking that the cooler weather may have had some effect on the action. Either that or the luck just wasn't there tonight. Still a great time.

How late exactly? Most often when its dark(10pm and later) fish are inactive and in a sleep type state, never have to much luck at that time although that doesnt mean its impossible. I think they run more off senses at night which is why lures that make commotion and/or vibrate tend to work better, for instance worms with large tails (for vibration) work pretty well.
