  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thanks i'll try to get oddball into this thread..

I feed baitshop worms twice a week. No probs. Only complaint I have is everytime I walk in the he asks me what type of fish am I feeding then he says oh I asked you that last time.

Ive used nightcrawlers(Rays/Dats), DIllies (cichlids, Ray), Eartworms (small Dats, and small Geo's) for almost 2 years without any problems.

I buy em from bait shops, Wal-mart, and even quickie marts. 2$-3$ each.

Jeae21, You find earthworms in the dirt, where else did you think they lived? I also dont think the golf course's groundsman would appreciate many holes dug up in search of worms.

Get a compost pin and in 3 months your in business. you'll have worms everywhere within 2 feet of the bin.

I second this question. Additionally, you may want to look into what kind of treatment your lawn is getting. If it is heavily fertilized, or treated with other chemicals, than you should NOT feed worms from that area. (Bioaccumulation)

Check the packaging of each diff type. If they do not use chemicals or preservatives, they should be fine to use as food. May be easier to dig/raise your own though.

Easier to dig/raise on your own??? Both those take work. LOL It may be more cost effective to raise them (long term) but I don't know about easier. Making the bedding is indeed a pain but worth it IMO.

As far as chemicals or preservatives, Worms are pretty sensitive so I don't think worm farms would be putting many chemicals or preservatives (which are used to keep dead stuff viable longer, not live stuff).

If you decide to venture into the worm raising realm, I caution against ordering from the Worm Man. I placed an order a few weeks ago & still no worms. Waited one week and e-mailed & got a run around. First claiming they had no record of my profile or order etc. ( I had received conformation e-mail, credit card charged, etc.) I was told to reorder. With a phone call and a we'll call you back, I get an e-mail stating they are back ordered & will get them this week. We'll see.
Not worth the $2 - $5 savings.

yup they're the wal-mart worms..the one in the blue tub..
is that worm farm safe?

I have never had a problem using bait worms, You can also start a small compost pile in a corner of your yard.
Or start a small worm farm of your own.
