Thats way too high, what kind of lense are you talking about? The d60 with 18-55 VR lense goes for $550 most places. On ebay it can be had for under $500 shipped.

To the original poster, go to the store and try them out. Nikon vs. canon is personal preference...see how it feels in your hand. I would go d40 over the d60 as the only real difference is megapixels i believe. And unless you are blowing your shots up huge, i wouldn't worry about that.

that is from the original link OP posted from costco.

Cool..ill look into the d80. Where did you get it at. $800 w/ 2 lense seems like a good deal.

try B&H Photo. they still have it in stock & with free shipping.

I noticed the Nikon D40 has a 2.5fps, D60 is 3.0fps and the Canon Xsi is 3.5fps. Is this only good for shooting burst mode?

Also is the only difference between the d40 and d60 is mega pixel and fps? Thanks

The deal comes with 2 lens, SD card, camera bag so thats why its $700.

Thought about it and Im just going to stick with costco. I love their easy return policy. 90 Day return and 2 years warranty. Thanks for the heads up though.

I would go with the XSI myself-
I shoot the XTI and absolutely love it-Although I feel like I am starting to outgrow it now-or should I say I want more from my camera then it offers....But great beginner camera.I have invested moderate money into extra lenses and flash and have excellent results takeing pics-
I have nothing bad to say about cannon-
I am bias though and admit it-

I have also never put my hands on a Nikon....

Go with whatever feels best and has the option you are looking for...

Either camera is a great camera, but it comes down to research and understanding to get great pix. I'm a nikon guy, but I'm not blown away by the D60 or D40. They're great cameras, but they limit the lens selection because of the way they autofocus. If you're interested in used lenses, go Canon or D90.

i just got my cannon rebel XS and i love it what wonderful pictures it takes also its a camera that will grow with your needs good for its price. its just enough camera for your ever day needs and for the hobby !!! here is a pic with my new rebel xs i am not the best picture taker but i think the camera does a nice job p.s. this pic was taken the same day i got the camera

Thanks for the input. Yes, Lens selection is a big thing for me. So i will have better lens selection if I go with the Xsi over the d60?

IMO you'll have a better used lens selection. I'm huge on used lenses since I have a local shop where people trade all the time. 99% of the people who put money into a lens take care of it, so buying used typically is like buying a certified pre-owned car.

I'm not sure about the availability of new lenses, but I'm guessing Canon would still have the upper hand. If you were looking into
(Nikon) cameras that still take the older style Nikon lenses it would be about equal. (almost all of the lenses will work sans autofocus-unless it's fairly new)

Eventually, all of the Nikon lenses will switch to the new format, but that will take a while, and there is some awesome older glass out there (for both makes).

Lens selection depends on what your looking for. i recently sold all my nikon gear to get canon simply because or the superior telephoto game canon has (IME/IMO). Canon has nothing on nikon in terms of the macro game from what i've used, so i am probably gonna buy new nikkor gear. This is all higher end lens gear. If your wallet doesn't support (many don't) ethier company is plenty good in the entry level lens/camera selection. Can't go wrong with ethier.
