Just bought a Canon rebel xti with base lenses. It takes very good pics. I am still figuring out all the buttons, shutter speed etc... It was rated one of the best on the market at the time for features and $$. Will definitely buy more lenses. Never used a Nikon.

Been in the market for an SLR for sometime now and everyone that I've asked between Nikon or Canon is that it does not matter. When it comes down to to it it's the system you want to build. Specially the Lens. Canon I believe has more Lens's available and is interchangeable between body's. So the investment to be made is really the lens and accessories (e.g remote flash, etc) you will need to build the system.

Then when you do finally put a system together which will probably have cost close to $2K is it justified that the only purpose is because you wanted to take fish pictures. This is when the buyers remorse will kick in....hahahaha

If your an avid photographer that loves to take pictures other than fish than it should be justified.

I have the canon xti rebel.. And I love it. I have used a Nikon d40 one time and liked it also. But I got the canon. Still learning how to use it . But its a great camera for the money

i've always liked nikons, first digital cam was a nikon coolpix..always been a nikon after that. if i started out with a canon..it'd probably be the same way.

i have a D40 now, wanted the D50 but the store had sold their used D50's an hour earlier. now i REALLY want the new D300..

WOW that D300 is nice...

anyway I have a nikon D40x with the 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses, waiting on the SB800 remote flash (thanks to my GF, sorry I just can't thank her enough) but anyway I'm very happy with this camera so far, but like all things; I pretty sure I would love to upgrade in the future.. Man that D300 is lookin real HOTT...

I voted Nikon but that's only because I have one; never used a canon SLR...

Should have seen if you could have nicked a bargain D200 from somewhere now the D300 and D3 are out, they are still awesome cameras.

the hubby and i have been researching nikon and canon slr's now for the past few months. i think we are going to try out the nikon since he has owned one before (not slr of course) and loved it.. well see.
