Nikon vs. Cannon??

both brands are good. cant go wrong with either. i personally chosed nikon 6 years ago cuz to me nikon bodys are more aesthetic then canon and feels more sturdy.

Besides if you go dslr there are many combos of lense & body, brand is not important. Things that matter great camera body with a crappy lense is not as good as a lower end body with a great lense.. The lense by far will be more expensive than the body if you go for quality. If you plan to just point and shoot neither combo will matter, you have to know what you want from your camera.

how is comparing a nikon d800 against a cannon 5D mark 3 not specific enough? it meets your two specific model criteria...
