Im thinking of getting a nile monitor.Ive done alot of research.:D

I kno they can get to 7 feet but i also read they average at 4.5 feet.Do u think i could keep one in a 40 Long.Im thinking of adding one in there for 6 months then upgrading to a 75.Im gonna add one side sand and have the other side water like.(wading pool)any dbody else have advice.

The last ones I saw kept were adults and had an enclosure about 8'x12'

Also keep in mind that for the most part they are VERY ill tempered animals. They will whip thier tales at you, bite...HARD, claw at you, and deficate on you.
Im not saying that there arent calm ones around but they are far and few between.

Also your plan on upgrading to a 75 isnt that great an idea. You would just be putting off yet another upgrade. A 75 isnt nearly large enough for an adult Nile.

BTW, I am not trying to tell you NOT to get a Nile they are beautiful monitors, I am just trying to let you know what you are getting into.;)

I think a Nile would be a mistake, they generally have very bad tempers, get huge, and need a room sized enclosure. If you want a monitor I would seriously look into ankies. They stay relatively small, don't generally have aggressive dispositions and their bites are not near as bad as a Niles.

wad about a savanah

better, but a bigger wider footprint would be better.

Dont get it. You dont have the right housing for this type of animal. Becouse of that, it will suffer and none of us including you want that. A 75 gallon tank will do for about 4-5 months. Thats starting from a hatchling. These animals a rocket growers. A large room is needed once its a full grown 7 foot animal. Never plan on the average size, always look into the biggest this animal might get and plan for that. From personal experience is to tell you to hold off.

i sold one three days ago at work. it was 13" long and tore my arm up trying to get it in the bag. very nasty temper. they can do some serious damage when they are bigger.

thats the way to go bro, savanahs are a lot more laid back and dont get nearly as big as niles..........I hated my nile.......he was the meanest sob, would never eat prepared food, tailwhipped, and bit!!!!

oooooooooooo.........i guess those are out then:D .I wish they had smaller monitors
