Here are some pics of my Nile perch. I have a question for those who have had one of these, does any one consider them big eaters for their size? I have redline snakeheads and other pred fish and they are all big eaters, but the nile perch judt does not eat as much as them. He only eats just enough to get a tiny bulge in his stomach. Any comments?

How long have you had it? It might just be adapting to the environment. My Siniperca Chuatsi don't know when to stop eating. What are you feeding?

sinipercas are notorious for over eating and dying from it. Lates sp. have pretty good manners compared to other monsters. And they go through growth spurts, sometimes eating a lot more...

Trust he is about 9-10" at the moment, and absolutely no aggression at all. I have had him for about 2 months, at first he would not take dead foods due to the fact that he was fed live foods at the lfs, but after about 3-4 days he ate some frozen shrimp. I feed him cut up fish peices and frozen shrimp, he won't eat pellets at all.

My problem is not that he dosen't eat, it is that he does not seem to eat much for a fast and big growing fish. He eats just enough to make his stomach bulge just a little. I have fish half his size that eat the same amount as him.

Thanks for the info Fugu, I did not know that about nile perches, but I still think he should be eating more.

I hope he is not dud fish??? :nutkick:

David,

Out of curiosity. Whatcha pay for it in Japan? I wanna see the shocking prices in Japan.

I paid $180 for him at 5-6". I have no idea if that is expensive for the US ,but for Japan it is very reasonable. I have seen perch varients $600-700.
