I know these are larger cichlids but at what size/age do the males start showing color? I have one thats about 5 or 6 inches and is not showing colors and i'm thinking maybe its a female.

I've had Nimbochromis show color in as little as 2" in a species tank (if they're high on the pecking order).
wow 2"?!?! i have a large male venustus and a large female venustus along with 2 that are about 3-4" but they are not showing color yet...i wonder if they are female also??
Yeah, I had some venustus fry growing out in a 10. The two largest ones were sporting blue faces and beating the others up, so I tossed them into a larger tank just a few days ago.
I've had N. livingstoni color up at 3" as well.

Most africans usually color up around 3"...if they are beyond 4" and still not showing color, they are females
I disagree many haps will not color up until larger especially the larger type haps
