Nimbochromis sp. together?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the thing you have to plan on before keeping any african tanks is that you will lose fish due to aggression no matter how well they are paired up. thats just how they work out the pecking order and its part of keeping africans. you can, however, greatly reduce this by proper housing with plenty of territories and by choosing wisely what you stock together. GL though Jocke! as for the poly question, I have a 5 inch sen in my african tank and all is well. the key in this case is that he has places to hide that no one else can fit in

Unless you have a really large tank these predatory haps will cause promblems when they get to a certain size. Just the way it is. I ended up putting my 9 inch male fussco in a 50 by himself with a large syno and a pleco that he ignores. Had him in a 125 with other large haps and it just went crazy on the other male haps.

My friend and I use synodontis to keep the tanks clean. If a fish dies in an inaccessable place or you don't see it, the synodontis will clean it up for you.

If you want to keep a biotope, you might think of a Synodontis Nyassae (but these are rare). I guess that that the other synodontis like the lucipinnes(the dwarf) of poly white will also do their job well.

I mostly keep the poly whites as they have some more color. Advise is to keep most synodontis in large groups. if you keep 2 or 3 you won't see any. In the one tank I have 12 Poly white Zambia's. very cool to see them move around.

Hey I just noticed that you are from Sweden. 2 weeks back I was on holiday in Kristianopel near Karlskrona

I have 4 species of synos that will go in the tank already, so thats good to hear that they are compatible.

What are Poly white Zambias? Never heard of them before?

Lol, I live in Kristianstad wich is about an hour from Karlskrona. :)

I will buy some more rocks then, Thanks for your input! I dont want any breeding in the tank just 3 or 4 large malawi preds, but should I buy a bunch of each kind so they can "kill off" each other?

i wouldent put d. compressiceps in that tank.. its way more aggresiv than N.Fuscotinolatus.

if i where you i would go for some
N. linni. caus the way they seeking food. its so funny to see em standing over a rock for several minutes waching a little mbuna =)

N.venustus for the yellow/orange. amazing blitz.

N.livingstonii just for the playing death part . also grear fun =)

and then i wouldent be worried to add N. polistigma...

(dont expect to sell youngs from that tank. thers gona be alot of. XXX in it ^^)

ok, right now Im choosing between 1m3f of either venustus or livingstonii.
But would it be ok to only have males of of venustus, livingstonii and linni? (3 fish total)

well i always kept my malawis with males and fmales.

i would say 1.3 or 4.2

with the 1.3 the male will chase the fmales all the time... thats why you atleas need 3 of em.. else he kill em.

4.2 maybe bette for you if you want coulor 2males are no go either one or both will die of fighting. 3males is ok but again if one die you back to 2males and again (death)
thats why i say atleast 4 males . then the beating is shared betwen 4 males. = more survival.

If you get them all at a young age you'll probably be fine..........nimbos, eyebitter, bichirs, cats. I started all of the above out in a 75gal 4ft tank...........now in a 135 6ft. tank all is still well. Never had livingstonii instead had polystigma - gave him away looked more like a swimming rock than a colorful fish.
