Not sure about keep. I think just purchase. Like I think shops used to/still might get away with "giving away" a "Free turtle" when you buy a complete setup and making up for the cost in markups.

ic... thats pretty odd considering even red list endangered species are legal almost everywhere
due to them being bred in captivity. never would of realized it to be illegal in the east coast
especially considering that they cant be a invasive animal seeing how cold it gets there... im
gonna look it up and see if i can get some more detailed information on it lol.

In my limited research on the subject I came across this.Though informative it is still a little confusing.

interesting... but at least it's legal to possess long as you acquire a permit for $10/year
excluding the bog turtle. you can keep eastern painted and common snapping without
a permit. lol nj makes things complicated but on the bright side its not totally illegal like
fw rays minus a couple of species in cali. lol

I think that is okay.....really though.

nah it strictly said captive bred specimens only, no wild caught specimens. but hey
if no one is there no one would know lol hahaha im jk

The headscratcher in that link was this statement,"Residents of this state may also obtain an Animal Dealer/Wholesale license to be able to sell turtles legally here. However, turtles and tortoises CANNOT be sold within the state of New Jersey".....What would be the purpose of obtaining the dealer's license then?
