If fish fins get nipped is that it forever? Or can they heal?

I have got a small manganese, real small, that my girl friend picked out...yeah...its got some nipped fins.

He is probably only 1" maybe a little smaller even.

I have also got a 4" JD that just got nipped by the 7" Oscar in the dorsal. You think he will fix that or will he have the U shap missing forever now?

as long as its not all the way down to the base it should grow back. but it is important to isolate from the aggressor if you want it to grow back fast, along with lots of water changes

Would the salt in the water addition work for this as well? I know its mainly used for dieseases but would this apply as well?

I always thought that JD were extreamly aggresive and it is def the lowest ranking fish in the tank. He is with two Oscars that are bigger than he is. Do JD's grow slower because I bought them all at the same time/same size?

Maybe seperating him will increase his mojo? He seems skitish and does not roam around the tank nearly as much as the two oscars.

Here is the fish in question, I dont think the bit is all the way down, but its close...

Can anyone tell from this if it might heal?

Looks like theres a little little bit of fin left, should grow back but as was said earlier a hospital tank would be better. 10g is perfect

What else would I do in the hospital tank? Just a lot of water changes and a little salt? Turn the heat up to 82?

just kepp doing what your doing and keep in eye out for fin rot which your fish cn get from nipped fins just make sure you keep the water changes up

How long do they tack to grow back ussually? Should I be expecting a few months or a few years? I really dont know to much about this, so I am learning as I am going...sorry for all the questions...

yes it should grow back,,,my sister put a heyhole in with her terripins and it ended up same as that and shes all normal again now,,just make sure you keep good water changes going
