Hey everyone my leporinus keeps nipping on every fish i put inside the tank except for its datnoid tankmates and a perruno catfish. Its victims have been an archerfish, a flagtail and a red tailed giant gourami. Can anyone help me on this situation? all the nipped fish have been removed because they have been stressed out.

Leporinus are unfortunately known to be nippy. I have decided not to get one because of this, so I can't really help you, sorry.

I had two and had to put them in separate tank for the same reason. They jumped and died.

I was lucky and had one that never nipped and was peaceful with bichirs and arowana. There were some other large monsters in there but he wasn't the smallest. Maybe the crowd kept him subdued? Idk I might have just gotten lucky with a peaceful one

You actually may be on to something. I have also hear of countless stories of these things being super aggressive, even when purchasing my guy at 3" was warned by lfs employees. But i never listen, thats was 3 years ago and i now have a massive 10" monster, and like you i have a crowded tank and he does not and has never hurt or killed anyone so maybe the key to keeping this fish is not letting him pick a target.

Get more cichlids, lol. I have a 10 inch leporinus and he holds his own w/ my monsters, but he knows better than to nip them, they actually get along great and I just moved him into my 280 so he can get HUGE!
