Nippy Ball Python?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
While recently researching ball pythons, I read that balls should be left alone for like the first week in the new cage to let them settle in, and that when they are shedding they should be left alone becuse they are a lot more defensive during this period. I believe I read all this or saw it on a youtube video by Ralph Davis.

i feel its the younger baby one that are nippy they grow out of it and if u act scared picing them up then thats were u can get bit. also yeah when they shed they cnt see as well so that could b a reason. your snake needs to get used to your body oder and u need to make sure if u have other pets u wash your hands befor holding. so u dnt smell like cat or dog...u no what i mean. i never use a stick or gloves for my snakes

were these snakes bought from a reputable dealer? It could be a bunch of diffrent reasons. Snake could be wc. (wild cought) or could just be gravid. When we used to get shipments of ball pythons in there was always one or two in the batch that were just nippy and always trying to go at you.

If you try and handle them once they get settled in the tank, like 10-15 minutes every other day or so, about a week or two later they should start to get used to human contact and they should calm down. It takes time and patience but it worked out for my red tail boa and a ball python i tempoary home'd . but good luck
