BB don't touch nitrates at all. Nitrates are simply the end result of the nitrogen cycle. The best way to get rid of it is water changes. If your tap water sucks, use bottled water, or an ro unit. Glacier water fillers are a form of RO/DI. You can also use under sink filters with 1 micron filters. Plants will keep nitrogen levels down, as will several chemical medias.
