I took the advice from some people on here and went out and bought De Nitrate. My well water comes out at 40-60 nitrates so water changes aren't working. I got the DIY packs so i could add alittle more to the bags. My ammonia and nitrite are always 0. Im not a fan of adding things to my tanks except fish and water but im out of ideas. People here also said to try plants so i will pick up some tonight. I only added it to one of my 55g tanks so i can see if it actually works.

Most aquatic plants prefer ammonia, which may starve your BB. However, most terrestrial plants prefer nitrate. Try Pothos. Look up threads by a user FireMedic. Basically, you just dangle the roots in the water and they suck the nitrates up.

Pothos, for nitrates. All the way!

Where can you find that? I will try that in the other tank then. Im up for anything. The thing that hooks up to your sink is a joke. Its $50 and makes 10g a water an hr. Which is fine but then it only makes like 75g before you need a new filter for it which is $25. So i would be spending like $50 a month for filters.

I didn't know if they were hard to find. Sweet tytytytytty going right now!!!!! I will try that in the other tank and record the results.

just got the plant!!! can i put the whole plant under after taking the soil out or do you just let the leaves hang out the side of the tank??

No, the leaves stay outside the water. Only the roots go in. They don't even need direct light, the light from the room is enough.

You let the leave dangle. I have some growing out of mine. Although after about 3 months they are sprouting vines and leaves underwater too.

DeNitrate has to be used in a trickle filter to be effective btw
