nitrate filter.. does anyone know exactly how this works

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if it sounds like BS and looks like BS and tastes like BS guess what.----------------its probably BS.

I made one of these and had a slight reduction in Nitrate, could've worked better if I left it on longer but the one thing that they don't tell you about is the rotten egg smell that is produced as a byproduct of the process.

It's not BS at all. They do take a long time to get working though, a couple months.

As far as how they work, I think he explained it quite well in his add.

I just made one of these, almost identical minus the feeding tube (good idea though) for about $30 or so, including the pump.

Here is a link for you to sift through. There are a couple examples to try.

That means you have to increase your flow rate slightly....;)

How long did you let it run?

i believe they actually work.

I had to have run it for about 4 months and was constantly tinkering with flow rate and couldn't get it to completely go away (I have a sensitive nose).

The one that I had made consisted of 3" pvc about 2' long, capped ends, about 4' of tubing and filled with bio media.

Did you use the 50 - 75' of coil tube inside? That's where the O2 is used up by the aerobic bacteria so the anaerobic can live in the media within the pipe.

Sorry that was supposed to be 24', from everything that I have read on the DIY sites that length wasn't necessary and as it was producing the rotten egg smell figured that it was working, as that was the sign that they told you to look for then you adjust flow.
