Nitrate gunk in gravel theory

I still do water changes, but eveyone will agree with me, it is nice not to have nitrates in the water.
 
What nitrate levels do you get with and without purigen? My 75 with the 15" jaguar cichlid has 10ppm nitrates in it with my water change schedule. I do 75% every week.
 
Before Purigen it was 40 ppm, it dropped to 0 ppm within a week.
 
Why was it 40ppm? If it runs that high you need more and bigger water changes. They will only help and they have many more benefits than nitrate removal, which is probably more than purigen can do. Does purigen remove ammonia and nitrites the way a lot of those nitrate removers do?

It removes nitrogeneous wastes, but my tank never recycles when it is removed.
 
With my water change schedule my nitrates stay down to 5-10ppm, so I don't see why I need to spend money to do better when my (free) water changes are doing a great job as is. And you don't have to quote everytime. Quoting is for replying to someone when replies have already been posted since their post, so it may not be obvious who you are talking to, or you need to show the exact phrase or wording you are replying to. In a thread the replies are posted in order, so if there isn't much going on there is no need to quote.
 
Ok, I gotcha. It isn't that much money for me and it balances out the salt I have to buy when I do a water change.
 
What salt? What do you mean?
