Now for people who do not have over flows, sumps, or wet/drys. Also for people who have critters that like to dig up plants, how can one use mangroves in their setups?

How much light do mangroves require?

Can you just take them from saltwater and put them in fresh?

They seem to like a lot of lot. I give them 12 to 15 hours a day with a single spiral type florescent bulb. It uses very little energy.

I bought them at the reefer shop from a saltwater tank and brought them straight home and floated them in my sump.

I use mangroves also. I just put them in my corner overflows loose. They get light from the normal room lighting and like terd, I have gone from around 30ppm to around 10 ppm at water change time. Absolutely no maintainence to them and I got like 10 for 10 bucks on ebay.

I'm glad to hear they're working for you as well.:thumbsup:

Find a way to float them in your tank and/or filter. How big is your tank and what do you use for filtration?

I'm not really into the floating plant.

Tank size = 150
Filtration = FX5 and two magnum 350's

It's not a plant, it's a tree. But with only canisters, floating them is about the only way to incorporate them into your setup. The top of the tree (the leaves) must be above water with the root and trunk submerged.

Here's a pic of how they're floated in my wet/dry sump...
