nitrate reductor/de-nitraters...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thanks again for the info... food for thought i guess. tank will be too close to the wall to have a garden behind it lol. Hopefully someone who uses or has used one of the aquamedic style units will see this post. I was looking on ebay last night and now i am toying with the idea of one of the hang on refugiums for my sump, comes with a pump and a small light. anyone got any ideas of what i could put in it? obviously chaeto is out of the question, but is there a freshwater version?

Hi,
I used the aquamedic nitrate reductor 1000 for a very long time. other than changing the deniballs every 6-12 months and setting up the correct flow, it super low maintainence and reduces nitrates. I had a heavily stocked 175g and did a 30% water change every 2 or 3 weeks. Nitrates never reached beyond 50ppm. Typically, they were in the 20ppm range. I am changing over to a drip system so shelved the denitrator. LMK if you have any more questions about it.

As for pothos and escape artists...I use eggcrate as a lid and secure it to the top of the tank. That way, you get the nitrate reducer and the fish stay in the tank!

thanks for that. I may well get one if I can find a second hand one on eBay. how do you know what the correct flow should be? do you have any idea what your nitrate levels were before you started using it?
