among other things, RO systems control pestacides and other toxins that may leach into the water. Well water unless tested can contain a lot of unknowns. I, however would rather use well water vs city tap water lol. The amount of crap put into city water is gross to think about. Anyways, a very basic RO unit will do for your needs and this way you know the quality of water. This will also help greatly to finding out the issues behind some tank quality problems.
