Nitrate ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ok- from now on, once you get that cycled tank- USE SEEDED MEDIA and be done in a few days! LOL! Do whatever it takes: BEG petco for their poopy filters on tank cleaning day....use their ugly rock they are tossing in pantyhose (so you can pull it out later). Cycling tanks SUCKS- but if you get really good at it using old stuff, you hardly cycle at all and can pretty much stock immediately with close observation of readings, of course. Once you see the pretty pink nitrates show and the ammonia drop- you're golden! Hope you are finally cycled and ready to go! Kudos to your patience!

Oh man I am never doing this again will def use seeded media. In am getting higher nitrate and higher nitrite but ammonia is staying at .25 . I will pull my hair out if this turns into another couple of week saga

I cant tell the difference between nitrate 5-10- and 20 crap all looks the same... then the 40 and 80 looks the same

I like reading this jaws cause I'm cycling my 135 as well. I have about 0 patience . I have a bunch of mollies in there (hate looking at them as well) I was at .25 ammonia 0 nitrites..... picked up prime stability today, added the first dose . It says to continue adding for 7 days, but it sounds like people say just dump it all in one shot. I really want to transfer the fish from the 55 gal asap but scared and don't know which fish to start with when that time comes

Hey bro feel free to ask these guys all you want man but from whatbit read its follow the directions exactly... I never heard of dump in it all in. Why dont you borrow some media from your established 55 also maybe gon out and buy a bunch of giant danios to increase your ammonia source? I cant say how effective the stability is though because for a little under 3 weeks all I got was ammonia then the same day I purchase the stability I had nitrite and nitrate (tested before dosing)

Guys this gonna sound real dumb but how do you run your tests.... In mean donyounput the test tube right on the color chart and compare? Cuz I cant tell if nitrates are 5, 10 or 20... leaning towards 10 I think.... or do tou put the bottle up to theough away from the card cuz when indo that it looks like all readings are less
What donyou guys think these readings are

How do I borrow media from the 55? It has a HOB filter and the 135 I'm running 2x 405s

take "whatever media"(even an insert), and put it in one of the 405's,(or both) just make sure to leave some media in the 55 filter so you don't re-cycle that tank....if an insert won't "fit"in the 405,cut off some of the floss from the plastic "body "....ALSO for "BEST" results try to get the floss placed in the 405 as close to the intake(bottom of filter,I think on that one)as possible:)

that ammonia reading is tricky. If you put it up against the chart it reads .25 and stand it on top of chart it reads 0,if that is what you are seeing ,then imo, the ammonia is so low as not to be a factor, CONSIDER IT 0 with regards to cycling, and focus on nitrites....be wary though ,it is easy to lose cycle on a newly cycled tank try not to clean any media for a while,I learned this lesson the hard way a few tanks ago.:)

Thanks dude I am not going near that filter until the flow rate is so low the water is dripping out (joking) but yeah im not gonna touch it for a while I have no patience for stuff like this... do not wanna lose a cycle.

Brock also remember after you do what lp said you dont wanna kill the newly transferred bio so put you prime or whatever u use in the tank before you refill and pit the new water in away from you filter intakes when doing water changes. You could also add more fish.
